Diversity Immigrant Visa Program in Orlando

Consult with an Orlando Immigration Attorney

Each year, the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program provides 50,000 diversity visas to eligible individuals from certain countries. Conducted by the U.S. Department of State, the program provides visas to natives of countries with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.

Who is eligible for this program?

Eligible countries may change from year to year, and residents of countries with high immigration rates are usually not eligible. Those selected from the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program will receive permanent residence status.

In order to be eligible, you must:

  • Be a native of one of the listed countries
  • Meet the education or work experience requirement

The education requirement is completion of a 12-year course of elementary or secondary education. Work experience requirements consist of two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform.

Beware of Frauds and Scams

In recent years, there have been many frauds and scams that capitalize on Diversity Immigrant Visa Programs. These can involve fees for filing applications and fraudulent e-mails or letters that state that an individual has won the lottery and will be granted a permanent residence green card. All applicants should know that online applications are available for free at the U.S. Department of State's website during registration periods and that winners are never contacted by e-mail. In addition, working with a qualified and reputable attorney from Brown Immigration Law can ensure that you do not fall victim to diversity visa scams.
